Getting back to our usual tempo with Hai Society, this week we spoke with Margaux Dereume, the Paris based creative who shares her time between a number of artistic talents, from print design to art direction and even ceramics, most recently crafting a series of precious shell shaped pottery. Margaux has a honed eye for spotting serendipitous moments of visual beauty. She utilises the natural objects of her surroundings to explore intriguing abstract and geometric shapes in her environment, and shares these joyous observations through her art and spontaneous images shared on her social media.

Margaux popped her Puff Gina on her shoulder this week and included her in some playful moments! Read on for an insight into this artists unique visual perspective...

Describe what you do:

I would say I am a curious creative mind who works and plays with colours, nature, shapes, lights, emotions …

Where do you consider home? When do you know you are home?

Anywhere I can be surrounded by nature and close to the water element! But also in our Paris flat.

Where do you want to travel to when it’s possible?

I really would like to go to Japan!

What was your dream job as a child?

To be an hairdresser or an artist, so I think my inner child is quite happy right now haha

How, or where do you go to find inspiration?

Through my memories, books , exhibitions, friends, travels, nature, music, but also in a lot of things that I capture through my eyes or my phone because I am really attentive to tiny details.

Do you have a film that you keep coming back to?

Mulholland Drive by David Lynch is one of my favourite movies. On a different vibe I also like movies from Wong Kar-Wai & Takeshi Kitano.

Which books are you reading, or rereading, right now?

Right now I am reading the last Mona Chollet "Reinventing Love" on how patriarchy sabotages heterosexual relationships and Serotonine from Michel Houellebecq.

What’s the biggest risk that you’ve taken?

Hmm maybe to leave my full-time job to be free-lance.

Do you collect anything? What’s your most treasured possession?

Tiny things I find in nature such as pebbles, corals, shells, dried leaves, seaweeds …

I also got a ton of shirts and I really love lamps, I love the idea that an object can bring light!

Is there any particular outfit or item of clothing you’ve worn that holds a special place in your memory?

All the pieces that i got from my Grandmother and mother for sure my vintage finds that reminds me a place, a moment …
