Guen Fiore
For this week's Hai Society, we sat down with Guen Fiore, who we had the pleasure of shooting our Spring/Summer 2023 campaign with.
The London-based, Italian-raised photographer was responsible for the beautiful campaign imagery behind our latest collection, which will be dropping 30th January 2023.
Hi... or should we say Hai!
Hai!
What do you do?
I’m a photographer
Where do you call home?
I call home the place where my everyday life happens, where my friends are and where I can restore my routine and relax when I'm not travelling. Which at the moment would be my apartment in London. But I feel ready for a change. I also always feel a strong connection to my origin and to my hometown in Italy, where my family is.
What is your favourite childhood memory?
My grandmother crying from laughing while watching the horror movie "What Lies Beneath”
What/where/who inspires you?
I'm an inward-looking person. Most of my inspiration comes from my personal experience and memories. At the same time, I'm very inspired by some of the girls that I choose to work with and photograph. I think the mix of the two elements is what brings my work to life.
A book or movie that changed your life?
“The Last Night of the Earth Poems”. Probably it has more to do with the specific time in my life when I happen to read it.
What is your favourite thing about your career?
I think the fact that everything happened so quickly, which has its cons too, of course, but it has been an exciting journey. Also the privilege of making a living doing what I love, and getting the chance to work with talented people that I admire. I also think it is great to have full control of my time - being able to have time off when I need it is very important to me.
What motivates you to work hard?
Seeing things become possible, I guess. I never set goals for myself but I have always had dreams. Seeing some of them coming true and getting closer and closer to them motivates me to work hard.
How would you describe your photography style?
Personal and modern.
How would your friends describe you?
Kind, maybe?
What is the best part about living in London?
A thing that I'll always consider very precious about London is the freedom of being who you are. It's a bit of a cliche and we tend to take it for granted, but it's actually very rare and special.
What’s an essential part of your daily routine?
Having time for myself in the morning. I love to wake up, light incense and make myself some breakfast before starting the day.
What is your favourite piece from our SS23 collection?
The bags are incredible!
What are you looking forward to in 2023?
I’m very much looking forward to seeing what this year will bring - I have a feeling it will be an exciting one! But honestly, I’m also looking forward to being able to enjoy very simple things. Spending quality time with the people I love, taking care of myself and being happy :)
