hai Maria Joudina

Happy Easter, Passover, Ramadan and Sunday Hai Society!

Tune in this week for a chat with friend of Hai, creative director and founder/editor-in-chief of PUSS PUSS Magazine, Maria Joudina. Maria set up her coveted bi-annual publication for fashion, culture and cat-lovers alike, with the intention of starting a project that celebrated "people who go their own way and are not influenced or told by others what to do – just like cats!". The magazine has since become a staple amongst those looking for inspiration from the best crop of emerging image makers, established industry icons (they have counted Grace Coddington as a contributor) and irreverent personalities. We checked in one Spring weekend with Maria, the creative brain behind this feline-friendly operation, as she took her Little Lilac out for Sunday park frolics.

What do you do?

I’m the editor in chief and creative director of PUSS PUSS Magazine

Where do you call home?

Victoria Park in London

What are the biggest inspirations to your work?

Nothing specific, just always keeping my eyes and ears open.

Can you recall your dream job as a child?

I wanted to be a fashion designer, my mom even still has some drawings of my designs!

Dogs or cats?

Cats, always!

A film that you could watch every day and never get tired of?

The Big Lebowski

Important question, lipstick or lipgloss?

Both!

Favourite restaurant in the world?

Dr Zhivago in Moscow

Who would play you in the movie about your life?

Oh, I don’t want to flatter myself but I love the idea of Natalie Portman :)

What’s your most treasured possession?

A ring that was given to be by my grandma, it’s a simple white gold band with small diamonds that used to belong to my aunt.

If you had to eat one breakfast food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Fresh white bread, butter and caviar with a cup of sweet back tea.

Favourite vintage/second hand store in the world?

I have to admit I haven’t shopped in second hand stores for years, I get overwhelmed by all the choice and the frustration of finding something I love that’s not available in my size.

Where are you going to take your Hai bag next?

Hopefully on a holiday somewhere warm!
