hai SS23 Presentation at LFW

As part of London Fashion Week, Hai showed our Spring/Summer 2023 collection at The Old Finsbury Town Hall. We are delighted to have had the pleasure of working with the wonderful Damsel Elysium, who added a poetic touch to our presentation, composing a very special and unique piece of music, performed alongside our new collection.

This season's presentation drew inspiration from memories and nostalgia; that’s less memories of childhood, and more memories of Hai itself. Silhouettes and details repeat from past collections but renewed; trousers become more exaggerated, ruffles appear on dresses. Some pieces have the feeling of having been test driven and tweaked, updated for a different season. Classic pieces reappear but in jewel-bright lilacs, pinks and blues.

To get a more intimate view on what the presentation signified, continue to read our SS23 collection story written by Holly Connolly, about the mysterious woman wearing a hat.

"There is a woman standing at the edge of the room, watching the performance, and, with one eye still on the dancers, you find yourself drifting towards her. You have to get a better look.

She is wearing: a hat, which is why she caught your eye at first. It’s similar to a bronze one worn by one of the dancers, but hers is dusk pink, and she’s tied the thick ribbon straps so they hang loose at her collar. (It makes you feel like you could be a person who wears hats.) And then, a crisp white vest, it looked simple at first, but up close the fabric is latticed almost like a pie-top. She’s matched her skirt to her hat, which sounds quaint but it feels original in the flesh. The skirt has the luxury shine of silk, and a ruffled hem that’s like a knowing wink.

You think about taking a photo of her but you decide against it, she might see, and anyway, sometimes it’s not about trying to hold on to the moment. So you take one final glance to get the shoes, you’d expected maybe heels, but instead ballerina flats. Ballerina flats, dancers… OK, you are missing the performance now, it’s time to turn back. Then, just as you are looking away, she catches your eye, and she smiles."
