Silk for Tea

Silk for Tea

Recently, we gathered at Hai for a small tea ceremony in collaboration with Naiara Sabandar of Oficina - a canteen and culinary studio in Amsterdam rooted in seasonal cooking and tea as a daily practice.

Silk for Tea brings together two materials with a long shared history in China: silk and tea. Both are shaped through time, care, and knowledge passed down through generations. Neither can be rushed.

Historically, silk and tea travelled the world side by side - part of everyday life, but also central to moments of hospitality and pause. This gathering grew from a shared interest in those values, and from a desire to slow down and spend time together around the table.

Silk as a surface for tea.
Tea as something to be shared.

Alongside the ceremony, Naiara and we worked closely together on a small collection of pieces designed specifically for these moments. Three objects, all made from beautiful raw silk: silk coasters, a silk table runner, and knot bags. Pieces intended to live with tea - to be used, touched, and returned to.

The Silk for Tea pieces are now available online and in store at both Hai and Oficina.

A continuation of the gathering, beyond the table.
