hai Maryam

Meet our newest friend, Maryam, a.k.a @mizziemaz. We connected with Paris-based Maryam online recently having fallen for her subtly whimsical images that combine her otherworldly beauty with an obvious connection to nature. Her warmth and freeness of spirit were instantly infectious and we soon hit it off, connecting over a shared interest in Endometriosis, an ovarian condition she herself suffers from, and hopes to bring attention to.

Read on for our chat with Maryam while she played dress up in her new Floris Shirt on a day of R&R ahead of a packed schedule modelling at Copenhagen Fashion Week.

What do you do?

I grow lots of different varieties of plants.

I created Hesper, a home crafted organic oil to supply my friends and family and ultimately more. Hesper started after I was diagnosed with deep infiltrative endometriosis, and wanted an alternative to the pain or stress of modern medicine.

Also, I’m a model.

Where do you call home?

My home is in Saint-Ouen sur Seine in the outskirts of Paris.

But also in other parts of the world : Copenhagen, Denmark where I spend lots of time and Gujrat, Pakistan where my family lives.

What/where/who inspires you?

What: Vegetals, minerals and insects are really interesting to look at, shapes, colors, movements, all of it is so incredible

Where: my bed when I dream or have nightmares

Who: I’m the number one fan of Miranda July

Can you recall your dream job as a child?

I don’t think I’ve had one dream job but many. Probably changing my mind every week!

One thing is sure is that I was a very shy child (and still a very shy adult) and most of the jobs I was dreaming of were probably some very solitary ones : from forest ranger to beekeeper (my childhood friend’s dad was one and we spent tones of hours in the forest drinking and eating honey straight from fresh jars…)

I guess it includes lots of work in nature.. and it’s still my ultimate goal, working and being in nature!

If you were an ice cream flavour what would you be?

Without hesitation : the vegan mint and chocolate chips ice-cream from “veganice”

A song that you can't get out of your head?

Well… thinking of that sentence made me having “can’t get you out of my head” from Kylie Minogue

Damn

Otherwise I often whistle this song from Shankar Jaikishan - Bombay talkie

Dogs or cats?

Too many subjects in this world where we tend to divide ourselves.

I love all animals

(But I obviously prefer cats lol)

Couldn’t live without my precious Plu, best emotional support being on this earth !

Favourite restaurant?

Baka d’busk in Copenhagen

But I would also like to mention the most lovable lunch/cafe place called dzidra, Bella the owner is the warmest host (in Copenhagen too)

If you could live anywhere in the world where would that be?

Somewhere in a forest where I could work, garden, be auto-sufficient, welcome my friends, be creative, grow together and help each other out

A safe, learning zone pretty much

What’s your most treasured possession?

A shell box that contains 10 years of prayers that my mom’s best friend gave me right after my first surgery due to endometriosis. Such a precious box.

Breakfast or dinner, and what are you eating?

Breakfast: I love waking up very early and have slow morning drinking filter coffee and I do make a delicious banana, cacao, nut cream, cacao nibs, reishi, chaga, cordyceps and lion’s mane mushrooms smoothie…

Building up my immune system <3

Favourite vintage/second hand store in the world?

Segunda mano, Carrer Manuel Guasp in Mallorca. Loveliest lady, with just piles of clothes all over the place!

I’m quite serious about the “piling” situation.

Do you have any goals for the rest of the year?

Growing my family, adopting another cat and multiplying my plants

<3333

Where are you going to take your Hai piece next?

Copenhagen Fashion week!
